T Reviews – Cecconoid

Reviewed on Nintendo Switch.

Cecconoid is an Action, Indie game developed by Triple Eh? Ltd and published by Thalamus Digital. It’s out now on Nintendo Switch, here’s a bit more about the game-

‘The good ship Equinox is under attack from Stormlord and his robotic minions, the Exolons! You’re the crew’s only hope. Take your Samurai-1 fighter, find Captain Solomon’s Key, clear the decks of evil robots, and save the Equinox from certain destruction!

Cecconoid is an 8-bit inspired, flick-screen, twin-stick-shooter, set in an alternate dimension where the pixels are still chunky, and the bad guys are black and white. Except for their red dangly bits…’

Graphically Cecconoid is simple, its 2d 8-bit style with multiple different filters available to enhance the retro feel, explosions look really good and despite the simple graphics the rooms you playthrough look really good too. There’s moments of bright flashing or huge warning signs when you’re going to get into a bigger fight. It’s a simple affair but incredibly enjoyable

I’ll be honest, I really enjoyed the gameplay Cecconoid has to offer. The rooms offer a challenge as well as the enemies and you really have to think about how you approach each room to progress. It can be harsh but it’s still very enjoyable.

Where the game really begins to shine is in its arcade mode. This takes on a more shmup style where you just thrash through rooms blitzing any enemies that try to stop you. Lights flash and there’s plenty of enemies on screen to destroy and avoid. It’s very fast paced and very good fun. But hard.

Overall 7.5/10

Cecconoid doesnt do anything special or different. But what it does do is provide a very solid and challenging experience which is very enjoyable. The Arcade mode in particular is plenty enough to keep coming back for.
